Requirements of the Program

1 – MASTER’S

The student must complete at least 24 (twenty four) credits.

– Mandatory courses:
ERU 600 – Microeconomic Theory I
ERU 605 – Macroeconomic Theory I
ERU 626 – Econometrics I
ERU 627 – Mathematical Methods in Economics

To obtain the title of Magister Scientiae in Applied Economy, the student must meet the following requirements:

a) credits
b) approval in foreign language proficiency examination (art. 53, of the Graduate Rules)
c) research proposal
d) dissertation seminar
e) dissertation defense.

All students are required to enroll in at least one course offered in the summer term (usually February-March).

2 – DOCTORATE

2.1 The student must complete at least 24 (twenty four) credits.

2.2 The following courses are mandatory:
i) a minimum of one course in econometrics (ERU726 – Microeconometrics I, ERU727 – Microeconometrics II, or ERU728 – Time Series Analysis); and
ii) three of the following courses in Economic Theory (ERU700 – Microeconomic Theory I, ERU702 – Microeconomic Theory II, ERU705 – Macroeconomic Theory II, and ERU706 – Macroeconomic Theory III).

2.3 If the student has already completed one or more of the mandatory courses during the Master’s, the student must still take another course in the same group (Econometrics or Economic Theory).

2.4 Credits pertaining to courses taken during the student’s master studies will not count towards the required credits for the doctorate.

2.5 If the student has not completed courses equivalent to the basic curriculum for the master degree (ERU 600 – Microeconomic Theory I, ERU 605 – Macroeconomic Theory I and ERU 626 – Econometrics I), the student must take these courses in addition. The credits pertaining to these courses will not count towards the required credits for the doctorate. At the first matriculation, the student should talk with the coordinating committee about the necessity to take one or more of these courses.

2.6 To take the courses listed in item 2.2, the student should have already completed the courses equivalent to the basic curriculum for the master’s, described in item 2.5.

To obtain the title of Doctor Scientiae in Applied Economy, the student must meet the following requirements:

a) credits
b) approval of foreign language proficiency examination (art. 53, of the Graduate Rules)
c) research project
d) qualification examination
e) thesis seminar
f) thesis defense

All students receiving a scholarship from CAPES are required to enroll in the course Teaching Internship for two semesters.

All students are required to enroll in at least one course offered during the the summer term (usually February-March).
